Licences

The licence protection of the ClassiX® system consists of one or more licence files. These usually have the ending .lic, e.g. classix.lic.

The name of the licensee is stored in this licence file, but there may also be other restrictions which are checked against the licence file:

  • There may be a restriction regarding the duration (e.g. limited until 31.5.2007)
  • A restriction is possible so that only a specific database can be used with the licence.
  • There may be a restriction of the licence to a specific computer.

The licence file cannot be changed by the user, the authenticity and unchangeability of a licence file is ensured by means of a digital signature.

Accordingly, license files can only be obtained directly from ClassiX® Software GmbH.

If a licence is restricted with regard to use on only one specific computer, a unique identification of the computer must be sent to ClassiX® Software GmbH. This so-called "Hardware ID" is generated with the help of the tool "cxgethwidoso". To do this, simply run the program "cxgethwidoso hwid.txt" on the command line on the computer for which the licence is intended; the file hwid.txt then contains the Hardware ID. It can happen that changes to the hardware of a computer change this ID and thus invalidate the licence. In this case a new licence must be issued.
