While layers are used to separate the data of different clients, domains can be used to further subdivide the data according to content aspects. An object can be located in more than one domain (see also CLASSIX.INI).

Domains are managed by the object manager.

In order to visualise information about the database layout with InstantView®, domains are represented by objects of the class CXS_DOMAIN, which can be obtained indirectly via the CXS_LAYER objects from the object manager with the function GetLayers.

A CXS_DOMAIN object refers (with data field repCollections) to the CXS_REP_COLLECTIONsbelonging to the domain.
